The Argyle Sweater is making quite a come back with the younger generation making it trendy, while the gentleman on the golf course still looks very comfortable in it, before or after the 18 holes, which was popularised in the 1920's by the Duke of Windsor.

The Argyle pattern was developed from the tartan of Clan Campbell, of Argyll in Western Scotland, since the 17th Century.  It was traditionally used for kilts and more recently from the patterned Argyle kilt socks as worn by Scottish Highlanders.

The Argyle design and the tartan are two designs from one, the Antique Royal Cashmere Throw is also taken from the traditional tartan with the bold bright colours that only the Scots can put together reflecting the natural beauty of their surroundings.

Which is your favourite tartan?

I recently visited the factory Scott and Charters located in Hawick, in the Scottish Borders, where a lot of our beautiful Cashmere garments are made.  This is a craft with many processes still produced by hand, that I thought I would share them with you, in a short film by Jack Chipperfield, due for completion shortly.  Until then, I took some photographs of a few of the processes to show what is involved in producing some of the finest cashmere garments produced the world over.
1> Cashmere on cones direct from the spinners.

2>The skirts and cuffs are knitted separately and put on to the knitting bar by hand, stitch by stitch.

3>The bars are then loaded onto the knitting machine where the rest of the section is made, ie sleeves, front, back.

4>The finished knitted garment, in its greasy state and before linking
5>The linking process: the front of the garment is fed onto the linker and then the back is fed on and the two components are linked together.
6> It is then washed or scoured of all the natural oils from the product, this is critical and why no other country can produce the same luxurious quality.  Then the buttons and labels are added, pressed, bagged and sent out to the customer in this case seventeen71company.
Watch this space for the film and share it with your friends  www.seventeen71company.com

This is our 2nd attempt, they can only get better, but we'll make sure we have good fun trying!

The new spring summer collections are now in the shop, along with Lulu Guinness hand bags, which are stirring up a lot of excitement. We aren't surprised about this as they are absolutely fabulous, darling.

The Easter holidays were very quiet, probably due to, the price of petrol, the economy in general  and of course, the budget.......

Friends of ours went skiing in Aspen and I turned four shades of green when I saw the photographs.   We on the other hand had a night in Aberdeen, my first visit to the city and I look forward to the next, hopefully in the summer months, although it was 20 degrees up there a few weeks ago.

We met a lovely lady called Sally who runs a Designer boutique called Scottesque and also makes a fabulous coffee.

We then travelled home via the House of Bruar, and that was quite spectacular, especially the drive through Glenshee

Mother's Day?
Mothering Sunday?
March 18th 2012

In the UK and Ireland, Mothering Sunday falls on the Fourth Sunday of Lent, historians believe that the origins of this day is from the 16th century, when it was traditional  practise to attend your Mother Church, all young apprentices and those in service were released from their duties to return home and mothers were reunited with their children.

It didn't really become popular in the UK until American Soldiers brought their celebratory version of it over during World War II, which the merchants saw as a prime opportunity, and making it more of the commercial day that we celebrate it today.

It could be argued that the only people who benefit from it are the shops!  But if it means you remember your mother with a bunch of flowers, a cake, a card or a little bit of luxury, does it matter whether it is commercial or not?

Especially as the economy gets a much neededboost, and mum's are still number 1.

In America the holiday was invented by Anna Jarvis in 1908 to celebrate her mother, however it became so commercialised that she eventually ended up opposing the holiday she created!
